Hello and Good Evening everyone! As we promised, we have a weekend update. First, we have what we want to call updates with college art departments.
This is something I’ve wanted to do, since I’m currently in school for my BA in Arts. I’ve moved from freshmen to sophomore this year and I’ve been pretty excited about that.
Now me, Carys, and Rob have been discussing on making new changes to the blog site, add ons, and things like that. We now have our Weekend College of the Arts Update. Every first Saturday of the month, we will showcase colleges all over the US, with art programs, upcoming projects, and exhibitions.
Here is what is going on at the college I attend, Columbus State University and their art department. This was sent to my student email a few days ago this week from Ms. Hannah Israel, who is Department of Art, Gallery Director and Professor of Art at the university.
‘Please join me in congratulating The Young Curators of the Department of Art at CSU on their debut as curators in three professional galleries spanning regional, national, and international spheres.‘
‘Symone Franklin, Brianna Cochran, and Sarah Grimwood curated the exhibition titled “Energetic Lines from the Wes and Missy Cochran Collection of African American Works on Paper,” currently on display at the Do Good Fund until February 24. The Do Good Gallery is situated at 111 12th Street, Columbus GA.‘

‘Vinh Huynh, Indigo Pullen, and Shantae Jarrell curated “Plexus: Intricacy of Lines” at the Kentler International Drawing Space View Files in Brooklyn, NY. The exhibition debuts this Saturday, February 10, from 4 to 6 pm. During the reception, the young curators will present their visionary approach to the exhibition.‘

‘Sarah Grimwood (Fall 2024 Study Abroad Student), Shantae Jarrell, and Sarah Beth Cardin are teaming up for an exhibition and discussion centered on the impact of Art and Music on Human Rights, titled “Hoot and Holler.” This curatorial endeavor, sponsored by the Center for Global Engagement, will be showcased at the Oxford Brookes Archive Library Gallery in Oxford, England. The exhibition will coincide with the Human Rights Festival, running from March 15 to March 24, 2024.‘

‘I am immensely proud of the diligent effort and commitment displayed by every Young Curator involved in these projects, as well as all the students who dedicated themselves to Gallery Practice and the Illges Gallery internships within the Department of Art over the last 6 months. The Illges Gallery stands as an exceptional platform for our Department of Art students. It is through the generous support of the Mildred Miller Fort Foundation, CSU Friends of Art, and CSU Student Activity Funds that we can offer such valuable professional experiences to our students. Special thanks to DoGood Fund, Cochran Gallery, Kentler International Drawing Space, Sallie Mize, Florence Neal, Dr. Eric Spears, and the Center for Global Engagement for supporting the “Hoot and Holler Project” with Oxford Brookes University in Oxford, England.‘
Again, we will post these updates every first Saturday of the month. Enjoy the rest of your Saturday, be safe, happy, healthy, and blessed.
