Ahhh….Friday! Friyay! My old stomping ground, my second home….San Antonio, Texas. I want to do something a bit different here. Next year San Antonio will celebrate their Tricentennial, 300 years….here a sampling of what activities you can attend during your time in the city.

San Antonio will celebrate its 300th anniversary in 2018. The San Antonio Tricentennial Celebration is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will be commemorated with a year-long calendar of events, activities and innovative initiatives that will carry San Antonio into the next 300 years.

Here are a few initiatives….

TriArt Grant Program

The TriArt Program was created to inspire a diverse range of art throughout San Antonio that reflects local culture and history. Through these temporary and permanent projects, locals and visitors alike will experience a mixture of art in a variety of expressions that reflect the vibrant pulse of the community. The program provides grants between $1,000 and $20,000 to artists and art organizations.

Public Art

Public art is a major component of Tricentennial. With the Tri Art Grant Program, local artists have an opportunity to provide meaningful enrichment and infuse community spaces with culture throughout 2018 and beyond.

AT THE MUSEUM SUMMER 2014: SAN ANTONIO MUSEUM OF ART

Friday…..it’s Friday! The month of June is going by swiftly. San Antonio Museum of Art is the focus today.

For a few new followers, this is the Summer 2014 edition of At the Museum. We’re looking at museums that have activities and events for kids and families.

San Antonio Museum of Art has plenty for children and families. Like……

First Sunday: First Sunday is where kids get to explore the collection, create art and to share. This program is free for children 12 and under.
Children and families are invited to explore the collections, create art and share Sundays at the Museum. Enjoy interactive fun to include sketching, painting, storytelling, films, performances and more.

Family Flicks: A new outdoor film series in collaboration with Slab Cinema. It is held every second Saturday at sundown from February till November. There are special performances and art activities one hour prior to screening time. During inclement weather, it will be held inside the auditorium.

Art Crawl (caregivers & babies 0-18 months): Every second Thursday morning from 10 – 10:45pm, bring your baby to walk through the galleries. Tour begins at the front desk and ends with playtime and refreshments. You can bring front carrying baby carriers and strollers.

Playdates (ages 2 to 4): Every Wednesday morning from 10 – 11am, kids experience stories, hands-on art, music, movement, and gallery activities.

Summer Camp: The Museum’s Summer Youth program that incorporates a variety of activities like painting and drawing, museum tours, storytelling, music, creative writing, and a whole lot more. The museum offers three week – long programs. Classes are held from 10 am to 4pm. Tuition covers all materials and parents are responsible for lunch and transportation of students. Summer Camp Brochure

Homeschool Student Workshops (ages 5 to 12): Designed specifically for homeschool students and their parents, this program gives students the experience of the museum’s encyclopedia collection, along with a tour, hands-on activity, and extend learning through art at home.
