Reflections: Love One Another

Reflections: Love One Another

February 27 / 18

Morning everybody! Last day of February and what a fitting way to end this month with a reflective poem by Kahlil Gibran.

Love One Another – Poem by Khalil Gibran

You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore.
You shall be together when the white wings of death scatter your days.
Ay, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God.
But let there be spaces in your togetherness,
And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.

Love one another, but make not a bond of love:
Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.
Fill each other’s cup but drink not from one cup.
Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf
Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone,
Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music.

Give your hearts, but not into each other’s keeping.
For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts.
And stand together yet not too near together:
For the pillars of the temple stand apart,
And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other’s shadow.

Really loved this. This is exactly what we all need after so much going on in the world.

Vol 6 / #2

Hello February! This month will be busy. We’ll be focusing on in the creativity of love and let’s not forget…it’s Black History Month so you’ll see creativity in African-American culture. It will be a packed filled fun month!

Association of Writer’s & Writers Conference & Bookfair 2018 will be here soon, so I’m already on the look out for this event, also trying to find out about any updates for the AWP Conference & Bookfair, then Artexpo New York, photography contests, and a lot more.

This month is slightly short with new music. Justin Timberlake‘s smoking new album, Man of the Woods will arrive tomorrow, along with Simple Minds, and Son Lux. It’s a short month for music festivals in the US. Monsters of Rock Cruise 2018 and Noise Pop 2018 are on the list. Since this month is Black History Month, why not put the focus on upcoming African-American artists for this month’s Shadow Spotlight?

@ the Event is continuing its tour through the state of Texas and we’re heading over to Austin. Great things to do while your over there.

Two superhero films are coming to digital soon. Can you guess what those films are? Lastly, Shadowboxerinc is adding another social media account in the form of Snapchat.

Ready to dive into February? Bye JanuaryHello February!

Hello there! We all need a little bit of what I like to call art inspirational quotes. I hope these quotes put a bit of spring into your creative step!

Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep. ~Scott Adams

Painting is just another way of keeping a diary. ~Pablo Picasso

The aim of every artist is to arrest motion, which is life, by artificial means and hold it fixed so that a hundred years later, when a stranger looks at it, it moves again since it is life. ~William Faulkner

Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up. ~Pablo Picasso

Life beats down and crushes the soul and art reminds you that you have one. ~Stella Adler

Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen. ~Leonardo da Vinci

Art is the desire of a man to express himself, to record the reactions of his personality to the world he lives in. ~Amy Lowell

We all know that Art is not truth. Art is a lie that makes us realize truth, at least the truth that is given us to understand. The artist must know the manner whereby to convince others of the truthfulness of his lies. ~Pablo Picasso

I don’t paint things. I only paint the difference between things. ~Henri Matisse

The artist’s world is limitless. It can be found anywhere, far from where he lives or a few feet away. It is always on his doorstep. ~Paul Strand

All art requires courage. ~Anne Tucker

Very few people possess true artistic ability. It is therefore both unseemly and unproductive to irritate the situation by making an effort. If you have a burning, restless urge to write or paint, simply eat something sweet and the feeling will pass. ~Fran Lebowitz

I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way — things I had no words for. ~Georgia O’Keeffe

Modern art is what happens when painters stop looking at girls and persuade themselves that they have a better idea. ~John Anthony Ciardi

As far as I am concerned, a painting speaks for itself. What is the use of giving explanations, when all is said and done? A painter has only one language. ~Pablo Picasso

The world today doesn’t make sense, so why should I paint pictures that do? ~Pablo Picasso

Art is the colors and textures of your imagination. ~Meghan, Los Cerros Middle School, 1999

Art is your personal diary where you may color your thoughts and emotions on a page. ~Sara, Los Cerros Middle School, 1999

Art is a shadow of what a person is thinking… a small glimpse of what they hold inside. Little secrets, regrets, joys… every line has its own meaning. ~Sarah, Los Cerros Middle School, 1999

Art is your emotions flowing in a river of imagination. ~Devin, Los Cerros Middle School, 1999

Art is an adventure that never seems to end. ~Jason, Los Cerros Middle School, 1999

Enjoy your Tuesday, be blessed!

September 29, 2014

Hello! September is about to go and we are now really into fall, my favorite time of the year. Don’t you just love how the leaves turn brown, yellow, red and orange? It’s as if God is painting those very leaves….ok, ok, but you get the picture right?

This is just a short reflection. One thing that artists, photographers, illustrators, sculptures love about their job: creativity. Their creating and making work that they love, that matters to them.

It could be something they’ve experienced at a time in their life. Something in their childhood, when they were in their teens, a first love, heartache, or even they’ve experienced a dark period at one point. It could just be something they strongly believe in like civil rights, women’s rights, any king of right. As I’ve said before, they’re telling a story.

Create what matters to you. So what if critics don’t like or may not understand it. It’s your story, your masterpiece.
