We’re moving right along into the month of April. Yes, Spring has arrived and it’s time to do some Spring stuff, creative and artistically wise.

I’ve been tracking down contests, residencies in art and literature. For literature, I’ve found several that may be of interests to those who love to write. The Fine Arts Works Center in Provincetown, Massachusetts is gearing for an eventful Summer. Their 24 Pearl Street Online Writing Program is already starting, along with their Summer Workshops. All will be revealed this month.

If you have deep pockets and I mean seriously deep pockets, then Swann Auction Galleries will be the place to test those pockets. They are having their Auction of African-American Fine Art, April 5, at 2:30 pm. The 25th Annual Benefit and Award Ceremony will be taking place later on this month New York City. All details will be coming soon.

Artexpo New York 2018 is coming. You still have a chance to get tickets to this event. The dates are April 19-22 in NYC Pier 94. More information will be posted soon.

Cardi B, Amanda Palmer, Willie Nelson, Kylie Minogue, Janelle Monae, and others are releasing new music for April, thanks to Metacritic. April also has a handful of music festivals coming, most notably Coachella, which is pretty much around the corner.

I’m also on the hunt for Games, Film, Fashion, and other great things. Almost forgot, there are some great reads to discover for Spring.

What’s up for Shadow Spotlight? Well, I think you may just like where I’m going with it this month.

This month I’m going to talk about procrastination. It can happen to anyone, even creative people and it’s this month’s Creative Close-Up. I’m doing something new for Shadowboxerinc. There will be a new post called The Archives where we’ll be visiting some Reflection and Creative Close-Up posts from last year, the year before that, and so on. Ready for April? I am!

Goodbye March 2018…Hello, April 2018.

Happy New Year! New year, new beginnings and new changes. I think we are experiencing a creative awakening in every aspect. From art to music, from film to photography, and so on and so on.

First off, keeping the updates on the AWP Conference & Bookfair which will be held on March 7-10 in Tampa, Florida. I will get the updates up for the first Wednesday Scene this week. Frieze New York and London 2018 will be arriving this year and don’t worry, I’m keeping up on that too…

New year, new albums so that means new music. Camila Cabello, Black Label Society, and several others will have new music for the month. Music festivals for January…short, but it’s still enough to get you going for 2018.

I’m taking Shadow Spotlight in a different direction this month. The Untitled Space in NYC will be the spotlight focus. @ The Event is still traveling through Texas. Will the next stop be Austin, Dallas, or Houston? You’ll have to wait on that one.

One last thing, be prepared for some changes coming this month, including a new theme. It’s a new year with new changes.

Goodbye 2017…Hello 2018

Summer doesn’t start until June 21, but here at Shadowboxerinc, Summer is already here. Lots of workshops to cover for this summer of 2017. Got a few events too. For example, 2017 Out of Chicago Conference is coming this month, June 23, 2017. Besides events, there are plenty of writers conferences, workshops, and retreats. So be ready to see some of that in the coming months.

For Shadow Spotlight, I’m doing something different. There will be five artists that will be featured.

I haven’t forgotten about AWP Writer’s Conference & Bookfair and Governors Island Art Fair. I’m getting all the information that I can about those, but of course, I can do better.

We’re still traveling through California and this month’s stop is the capital, Sacramento for @ The Event. I got the list for Summer Reads 2017 and it’s quite an impressive one too.

Lastly, I’m sure you’ve noticed a few changes on the site. I’ve added a few articles just to make the site a bit more interesting. Of course there will be more changes to come in the following months.

Goodbye May….Hello June!

The fifth month and already Shadowboxerinc is in motion. Not too much going on, but I’m getting ready for summer. New music, new films…well some old, new conferences, workshops…and so on and so on.

Updates on the 4 Heads Governor’s Island Art Fair 2017, Frieze New York, AWP Conference & Bookfair and a few others.

Shadowboxerinc has fashion on the brain. A few fashion designers or stylist will be featured in the Shadow Spotlight post.

@ The Event is headed to Palm Springs California for this month. I’m sure you notice a few changes here and there on the blog and there will be plenty more.

Goodbye April…Hello, May!

Hi! We’re now in the fourth month of 2017. Spring Break is over and now it’s time for a renewal of the mind. The creative mind.

Shadowbox is now Shadowboxerinc. There have been changes going on with the site and expect to see more in the following months ahead. I’ve been thinking about adding a page or post where you can feature your artwork, stories, and poetry. Some sort of thing like that. Events that are featured this month: 4Heads Governor’s Island Art Fair 2017, Literature events, conferences, MoMA, New Music for this month, and much more. Chance the Rapper is this month’s Shadow Spotlight. We’re still traveling through the state of California for @ The Event, but you’ll have to drop by to see where the next stop is. More changes, more surprises. April showers……

Hello! February has left the building March has arrived. Not a lot to cover this month, but it’ll be a busy month.

Reminders about Spectrum Indian Wells 2017, the dates are March 16 – 19, 2017. There should be some news about the event. More events such as Artexpo New York 2017, art workshops, literature workshops…all sorts of workshops are coming soon and of course, I will share those with you.

Chance the Rapper is this month’s Shadowbox Spotlight. We’ve now left Canada, let’s head to California for @ The Event….First stop: San Francisco. Spring will be around the corner, so the annual Spring Reads 2017 is coming.

Finally, I do have an announcement to make. It’s not bad news, but good news. So let March begin!

“Wan February with weeping cheer,
Whose cold hand guides the youngling year
Down misty roads of mire and rime,
Before thy pale and fitful face
The shrill wind shifts the clouds apace
Through skies the morning scarce may climb.
Thine eyes are thick with heavy tears,
But lit with hopes that light the year’s.”
–  Algernon Charles Swinburne, A Year’s Carols: February

Hi there, the first month of 2017 has passed. February is here. There is so much to cover this month. I’m not sure if all of it can fit in!

Alright, Spectrum Indian Wells is coming next month, March 16-19, 2017. We have the reminders: 4 Heads Portal, Artexpo New York,  and AWP Conference & Bookfair.

Got some new music…speaking of that, last Friday I posted a segment called Cool. It was a spur of the moment thing. You try to come up with an idea, then bam, a great one pops up. This just happened. This segment will be posted at any time. I find something in art, photography, literature, film, music, fashion….and on and on.

Pat McGrath is this month’s Shadow Spotlight, fashion’s most influential make-up artists and an inspiration for being a Black Woman Pioneer. As you know, it’s Black History Month, so I’m going to pepper the site with lots influential African-Americans who shaped our past, present, and future.

I have two film reviews that I want to share with you, plus there will be an interesting Creative Close-Up post. Vancouver is the last stop for @ The Event. Lastly, we know Valentine’s Day will be here soon, so let’s celebrate by focusing on love…creatively.

Goodbye January, Hello February!

Hello and Happy New Year! 2016 is officially over and 2017 has begun. I’m sure most or some of you have written New Year Resolutions and you probably won’t even stick with them. As for me, there are no such thing. I have goals and this year there are plenty of them. Some professional, some personal. Shadowbox is one of those goals, but let’s see what’s happening this month first.

I’m making my research rounds and 4Head Portal, Spectrum Indian Wells, Artexpo New York, and the AWP Conference and Bookfair are on the horizon.

Sundance Film Festival 2017 is coming around the corner January 19 – 29 in Park City, Utah. You still have a chance to get tickets, but I will warn you that several ticket packages are sold out, but don’t lose hope just yet…..

Michel Montecrossa is this month’s Shadow Spotlight. He is a man of many talents.

New year, new music. I’m excited to see what’s out there in music. We get to see some favorites and some newbies.

I have kind of binge-watched on Netflix and my Apple accounts and I really need to catch up on some films. Don’t worry, though, because there is a film review this month.

@ The Event is touring through Canada and the next city stop is Calgary. I’m interested to see what they have going on.

Most of the last year Stephen Silver has been Shadowbox’s Creative Close-Up. This year I want to bring some interesting article posts to get your guys thinking in a creative way.

Oh, by the way, don’t worry about the appearance. Making some changes here and there. Sometimes changes are good.

I’m not wasting any time this year. Let’s get January 2017 started!
