Wednz Scene: Another Call for Artist

Wednz Scene: Another Call for Artist

November 8 / 17

One last post for today and yes it’s another call for artists. Artsy Shark is looking for artists to be featured on their website. Below is a brief and detailed info about what you need to do….

Credit source: Artsy Shark

Visual artists in any medium are invited to apply to become an Artsy Shark featured artist.

Each individual portfolio article gives the artist an opportunity to tell their story in their own words, talk about their inspiration and technique, and present their work to our large audience. All features are promoted heavily through social media and email marketing.

Since 2010, over 1,000 artist features have been published on this site. All artist features are permanent and may be viewed here.

Artists who submit an application enter a competitive juried process which has a jury fee of $20. Not all artists will be offered a feature. Any artist who has previously been featured may not apply again. Selection is made through viewing the applicant’s art website or other online presence. All artists will be notified of the results of their application within three weeks of the application deadline.

A link to the featured artist’s own website appears prominently in each article. This gives artists the opportunity to make sales of their work, and capture email addresses of interested readers on their own site. Artsy Shark receives no fees or commissions whatsoever for any sales or contracts that result from being featured.

Enjoy the rest of your Hump Wednesday, be always blessed!

Minor adjustments, including spotting, dodging and burning, sharpening, contrast and slight color adjustment or the digital equivalents, are acceptable for all categories. If the judges determine that a photographer has altered his or her photo, they reserve the right to move the photo to Altered Images or to disqualify it.

For a photo in which a person is recognizable, you must secure a model release from the subject or, in the case of a minor, the subject’s parent or guardian and provide it to the Smithsonian upon request. A sample model release is available here. A sample model release for the Sustainable Travel category, sponsored by United Eco-Skies, is available here.

*If you have a signed model release, please retain it in your personal files. If you are selected as a finalist, you will be asked to submit the release at that time.

Similarly, entrants whose photos depict other people’s work (such as sculptures, statues, paintings, and other copyrightable works) may be need to obtain a release from the rights holder and provide it to the Smithsonian upon request. When photographing the work of others, it must be as an object in its environment and not a full-frame close-up of another person’s creation. A sample art release is available here.

Photographs that have won other major photo contests, either online or in print, as determined by the Smithsonian, are not eligible for submission. If a photograph wins another major photo contest post submission, it is not eligible for a prize, but may still be recognized as an Editor’s Pick or Photo of the Day. We define winning as having won a grand prize or 1st, 2nd or 3rd place overall. Photos that violate or infringe upon another person’s rights, including but not limited to copyright, are not eligible.

Photos that contain sexually explicit, nude, obscene, violent or other objectionable or inappropriate content, as determined by the Smithsonian in its sole discretion, are ineligible for all categories of this contest.
