Film Review: My Darlin’ Vivian

5.4.2020 Hello…I haven’t done a film review in a good while. I’m writing down my review for a documentary film that watched a few days ago.  South by Southwest Film Festival or simply SXSW was supposed to have taken place earlier this year, but was canceled due to COVID-19. They had a list of films ready to show and one of those films stood out.  My Darlin’ Vivian is about Vivian Liberto, who was the legendary Johnny Cash‘s first wife. Produced by their grandson, Dustin Tittle, this film brings to light the story of Vivian, the first Mrs. Cash, and mother to four daughters Rosanne Cash (an accomplished country singer), Kathy Cash Tittle, Cindy Cash, and Tara Cash.  Rosanne, Kathy, Cindy, and Tara tell the story of their mother’s childhood, how their parents met, the early years before the fame, how their parent’s marriage was marred by their father’s drugs, and the arrival of June Carter, who I dubbed the other woman, all in their own words.  I find it quite amusing how each of …

Reflections: Quarantine Creativity

4.29.2020 A lot of us have been in quarantine for the past several weeks. For those who are artists, painters, musicians, photographers, and so forth, that means really getting creative with projects. You may have put some on the backburner before this time and have used this time to get started. For me, it’s about drawing, painting, illustration, and writing. Even creating some music. I would rather do those instead of the night time job I have. Don’t get me wrong, I’m thankful and grateful to be doing something for eight hours, but I’m at a point in my life that I’m ready to move on to something different.  A few of you probably are feeling the same. Working on a project by yourself is relaxing. I think that this virus is doing is putting a stop to our lives so we can focus on what’s really important.  Yes, we would like to go to that workshop or conference, but when we are creating alone, you get a sense of peace you not getting when …

Creative Close-Up: Dear Hollywood

4.27.2020 Dear Hollywood, Honestly, I don’t know where to begin. Since the Coronavirus has put you at a standstill, I think now is the time to really tell you something. Directors, producers, writers, those who work behind the scenes, you really need to step up. Since the Oscars, there have been complaints about how the Academy Awards is lacking in diversity and not enough women getting recognition. I’ve been reading a few articles here and there. Watching the controversy on tv and then Oscar night came. It feels that I’m losing interest. The only thing I was concerned about was who won.  Ok, now that is done, let me just say this: Shut Up and Do better! I’m not trying to be mean, I just being blunt about the whole thing. In my opinion, the industry is not trying hard enough. Or maybe you don’t care. At least Natalie Portman is doing her part. When Rose McGowan called her out for her deeply offensive attire, which showcased names of female directors snubbed by the Academy …
