Hello everyone! It’s been a hot minute since I wrote a creative close-up. I mentioned that I wanted to do write about going back to school and now that the fall semester is over, just need to do the final exam, this is the perfect time to do it.
I’ve been going back and forth about going back to school. I’ve done this before, when I was working and going to Columbus Technical College. I graduated from there in 2006 for general office assistant.
Now here I am back at it for the second time. I’m now attending Columbus State University and my major is art. So not only do I work there, I’m also going to school too.
So far I’ve enjoyed the classes than I do my job, which is understandably normal. The classes I attended this semester were English Composition 1 and Art Seminar Foundation. Tuesdays and Thursdays were for my English class and Fridays were for Art Seminar. Both classes are in the morning, so that’s good since I get off at work at one in the morning. Juggling a job and going to school is no feat. For those of you who have done this, it’s not easy.
I really enjoyed the art seminar class. We got to go on three trips. The first is at one of the museums in the downtown area of the college. CSU has two locations, main campus and downtown or River Park campus. That is where I have my art seminar classes. We met at the Bo Barlett Center to hear nine artist discuss their latest projects. They were part of South Arts 2022.
The second trip we went to was at Buena Vista, which was about forty or so minutes. The way I describe it is a psychedelic world of explosive color in the middle of nowhere. It’s called Pasaquan. Opened in 1957, this area is a 7-arce compound created by the late Eddie Owens Martin, who was called by another name, St. EOM. I will do a close up about this place in another post in December. I have taken quite a lot of photos.
The third trip was about the other art courses we might be taking. We also got to talk to art students too. More about that as well.
What I really like about this was the fact that I was challenging myself. I’m still working on my time management skills as well as organization, which I suck at but it’s a work in progress.
I will describe both my classes more deeply later in December. I hope you enjoyed this close-up and there will be more to come.
Enjoy your Tuesday, be safe, happy, healthy, and blessed.
