Reflections: Thoughts on That Oscar Moment…

If you watched the Oscars Sunday, you know a certain incident happened. If you don’t know, Will Smith smacked Chris Rock in the face, because he told a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith‘s hair (she’s suffering from alopecia). You can see the spectacle on YouTube.

Smith did apologize on his Instagram account, Rock did not press charges, if you’ve seen the incident, people thought it was fake, but take a close look at Chris Rock’s reaction, you can tell he was visibly shaken, but kept his composure. Like I said Will did apologize, but now it’s reported that he was asked to leave, but refused. Wow. You know what made it worse, when Smith got his award, the audience stood and clapped, after the show, the the Academy tweeted that they don’t condone violence…

Smith knew he was wrong in the first place, but from what I’m seeing is a man who may be broken. This was way out of character for him too. I’m sure some or maybe all of you know about him and his wife’s personal life and all. He’s going through something and he just snapped. I’m not condoning the behavior. Smith could’ve handled it a better way, but…Anyway, there are a few points to look at.

First, celebrities are humans, they make mistakes. We have all made mistakes in our lives. We live and learn, but hopefully we do not make those mistakes again. I was reading the comments and these people really think they are holier than though. Not even. We have all fallen short.

The other thing, I love movies and tv…I love music, but I do not put these entertainers on a pedestal. I even don’t look at these people as role models either. That goes with people in the sport industry. That’s a mistake the we make. We get disappointed when we see our favorite people acting up and that just leaves us with a bad taste in our mouths. One thing I do know thought, Hollywood knows how to stroke the egos of these celebrities. More on that later.

So at the end of the day, Will Smith made a mistake and from what I’ve been hearing is the Academy is going to take disciplinary action against him. As the saying goes, there is a time and a place, but unfortunately that wasn’t the place.

That is my thought on this crazy situation. What did you think of the Oscar moment? Leave your comments below and with that, enjoy the rest of your Thursday, be safe, healthy, and blessed.
