Hello! It’s Wednesday and time to pass along some great creative stuff. You can never get tired of workshops and the Aspen Words is holding several later this year. Here are a few things to know about Aspen Words. The rest you have to look at their website…

“Aspen Words was founded in 1976 as a literary center based in Aspen, CO. A program of the Aspen Institute, our mission is to encourage writers, inspire readers, and connect people through the power of stories. AW’s year-round programs include Summer Words, a writing conference and literary festival; Winter Words, a speaker series presenting the best of contemporary literature; the Aspen Words Literary Prize, a $35,000 annual award for fiction with social impact; as well as a writers-in-the schools program and writing residencies.”

DEADLINE TO APPLY IS FEBRUARY 28, 2019. Please carefully read the tuition requirements and manuscript criteria before applying. There is a $30 application fee.

First-come, first-served. No manuscript submission required.



  • All workshops, including the three-day Readers’ Retreat, will begin with orientation on Sunday, June 16 at 5pm at The Gant in Aspen. 
  • Each writing workshop will meet for five mornings–Monday, June 17 through Friday, June 21 from 9am to 12pm. Lunch will follow each workshop session and is included with tuition.
  • The three-day Readers’ Retreat will meet the mornings of Monday, June 17 through Wednesday, June 19.
  • Additional afternoon and evening programming, including panels with the faculty, will be announced in the spring of 2019. To view a sample program from Summer Words 2018, click here.
