2016 AWP AWARD SERIES GUIDELINES

Accepting online submission January 1 – February 28, 2016

AWP’s Award Series is an annual competition for the publication of excellent new book-length works. The competition is open to all authors writing in English regardless of nationality or residence, and it is open to published and unpublished authors alike.

The Donald Hall Prize for Poetry offers an award of $5,500, supported by Amazon.com and publication by the University of Pittsburgh Press.

The Grace Paley Prize for Short Fiction awards the winner $5,500, supported by Amazon.com, and publication by the University of Massachusetts Press.

Winners in the Novel and Creative Nonfiction categories receive a $2,500 honorarium from AWP and publication by New Issues Press and the University of Georgia Press, respectively.

The Award Series conducts an evaluation process of writers, for writers, by writers, AWP hires a staff of “screener” who are themselves writers; the screeners review manuscripts for the judges. Typically, the screeners will select ten manuscripts in each genre for each judge’s final evaluations.

2016 Guidelines:

  • Manuscripts will be accepted between January 1 and February 28, 2016.
