Reflections: Sonnet 18: Shall I Compare Thee To A Summer’s Day? – Poem by William Shakespeare

June 2015 Hello! Summer has officially arrived. For the three months of June, July, and August, Reflections will have poems about Summer. Let’s start with William Shakespeare……   Sonnet 18: Shall I Compare Thee To A Summer’s Day? – Poem by William Shakespeare Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day? Thou art more lovely and more temperate. Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, And summer’s lease hath all too short a date. Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines, And often is his gold complexion dimmed; And every fair from fair sometime declines, By chance, or nature’s changing course untrimmed. But thy eternal summer shall not fade Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st; Nor shall death brag thou wand’rest in his shade, When in eternal lines to time thou grow’st, So long as men can breathe or eyes can see, So long lives this, and this gives life to thee. featured image unknown

Music Scene: Alabama Shakes

June 2015 Hey there! It’s been a minute since I posted for Music Scene. I’m happy to discover this southern rock band, the Alabama Shakes. Since forming in 2009 in Athens, Alabama, this band has been on the music radar. With the soulful and rocking Brittany Howard leading on vocals, followed by bass guitar Zac Cockrell, Heath Fogg on guitar and backing vocals and lastly, Steve Johnson on drums, the Alabama Shakes have cemented themselves in what I call blues rock, with r & b soul. They released the four-song ep Alabama Shakes in September 2011 and their first full-length album, Boys & Girls, which was made available in its entirety for live streaming from the Internet on April 1, 2012. Their new album, Sound & Color was just released back in April of this year. I know that this band will be here for a good long while. Check out their website http://www.alabamashakes.com. You can find them on iTunes, Spotify, Tidal, and Google Play.     featured image courtesy of http://www.theguardian.com (C) 2012 Alabama …
