REFLECTIONS: CREATING WORK THAT MATTERS

September 29, 2014 Hello! September is about to go and we are now really into fall, my favorite time of the year. Don’t you just love how the leaves turn brown, yellow, red and orange? It’s as if God is painting those very leaves….ok, ok, but you get the picture right? This is just a short reflection. One thing that artists, photographers, illustrators, sculptures love about their job: creativity. Their creating and making work that they love, that matters to them. It could be something they’ve experienced at a time in their life. Something in their childhood, when they were in their teens, a first love, heartache, or even they’ve experienced a dark period at one point. It could just be something they strongly believe in like civil rights, women’s rights, any king of right. As I’ve said before, they’re telling a story. Create what matters to you. So what if critics don’t like or may not understand it. It’s your story, your masterpiece. featured image: http://www.defaltwallpapers.com Advertisements

ART CLOSE-UP: WHICH IS BETTER KNOWLEDGE OR EXPERIENCE?

September 28, 2014 Are art schools or institutions preparing us for the world of art or do  we need to learn by own experience? featured image: http://www.asbirlapublicschool.com For some my followers, this is not the first time I’ve talked about this subject. Many of you may be thinking about attending an art school, but the question remains, will it be a waste of your time? Will you be able to commit your time and energy to learn about Drawing 101? Those are some of the questions that we are asking. I was just asked by a co-worker if I was going to school for my art. I always answer yes. I’m sure you guys who draw or sketch for a hobby get asked the same thing. You look to see which school would suit you. Once you select that school, then you have to find out about financial aid, application fees, then paying for supplies, it’s like your running through hurdles to get to your destination: graduation. AT THE MUSEUM: EAST SIDE GALLERY

September 19, 2014 Good Morning and Happy Friday! It’s time to take a peek at the museum. Esquisses heads to Berlin, Germany. The city has good museums and galleries, but there is one that stands out. It’s the East Side Gallery.   EAST SIDE GALLERY Located near the center of Berlin on Mühlenstraße in Friedrichshain-KreuzbergBerlin Freidrichshain, this gallery is the longest open art gallery in the world at 1,316 meters. It was part of the border between East and West Berlin. East Side consists of 105 paintings from artists all over the globe. It’s actually an international memorial for freedom. The gallery was established in 1990 by the merger of German artists associations, VBK and BBK. The paintings that are seen on these walls express not only the times of change, but for a better future, of hope for all of us. Over the years the gallery has experienced graffiti, vandalism, and erosion, but that didn’t stop folks from coming to see these far out portraits. Here is a short video documentary about the renovation …
